Manny Acosta signs on in Japan
Reliever Manny Acosta has signed a one-year, $1.65-million deal with the Yomiuri Giants of Japan’s Central League, according to his agent’s Twitter feed. The deal also includes $500,000 in incentives.
Though Acosta struggled throughout his on-again, off-again tenure in Flushing, he proved to be one of the Mets’ best relievers down the stretch in 2012, posting a 1.78 ERA over his final 26 appearances. The Mets nonetheless non-tendered him after the season.
Acosta, pictured above in a Team Panama cap, completed his Mets career with a 4.37 ERA over 130 appearances spanning parts of three seasons.
