The only variable I could see is Jordany Valdespin who, despite demonstrating both power and speed, is apparently not held in high esteem by management. Throw in the fact he’s yet another lefty without a good glove anywhere and it’s hard to see what his future is with the team. Still, I don’t necessarily see Hicks as a lock to make the team.

In the pitching area, you may have forgotten Collin McHugh. He and Hefner have some more big league experience than does Familia who may be asked to work exclusively out of the pen in Las Vegas for the first month or so.

Under “no” circumstances should the Mets sign Michael Bourn!! Even if they do not have to surrender their first pick to sign him. If I were Sandy Alderson I would never approach Scott Boras’s asking price for him. We should not make desperate moves. Bourn played well last year, but his numbers do not call for $12-15 million a year! I would have signed Hairston 3 yrs. for $15 million than one year of Bourn for $12 million! We should have just kept Reyes than do something this stupid!!!!
