Mets draft high school first baseman Dominic Smith

With the 11th overall pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Mets selected first baseman Dominic Smith, a left-handed power hitter who grew up not far from Darryl Strawberry’s old neighborhood south of Los Angeles.

Strawberry, coincidentally, was one of the Mets’ Draft reps in Secaucus, N.J. Here’s a photo of the two together at MLB Network Studios, courtesy of the Mets:

why are we going after all these high school kids when there is another way to start getting younger and better quickly,Ok alderson has said over and over again that the Mets are ready willing and able to spend on free agents well how about spending on a 23 year old outfielder that has a great arm, can play all three outfield positions and has been playing for the cuban national team for a few years now, Cuban defectors Dariel Alvarezisn the guy that we can get for just money, he has already worked out for
The Dodgers, Rangers, Red Sox, Royals, Mariners, Diamondbacks, Padres and Yankees. I can’t figure out why the Mets were not there considering that we keep shouting to the world, WE ARE READY TO SPEND, well lets see about that
