Reds 2, Mets 1: Three Up, Three Down

A day late never hurt anyone…

Three Up
1. Ike Davis:
In his first start since Opening Day, Davis finished 2-for-4. His reward will be a trip back to the bench for Tuesday’s series opener in Atlanta.

2. Jon Niese: Niese’s return from the disabled list was by most measures a success, despite the sixth-inning struggles that ultimately cost him the win. A better offensive performance would have greatly reduced the impact of that.

3. Kyle Farnsworth: Farnsworth actually didn’t pitch as well as Gonzalez Germen or Jose Valverde, the other two relievers to appear in Sunday’s game. But he has come through with two consecutive scoreless outings since Opening Day, perhaps positioning himself to gain a more prominent role going forward.

Three Down
1. Daniel Murphy: If Murphy is going to play poorly defensively, he must hit as well as ever. Right now, he’s not; an 0-for-4 Sunday dropped his OPS to .579 in four games.

2. Curtis Granderson: Another 0-for-4 dropped Granderson’s average to .167, with a .617 OPS and eight strikeouts in 25 plate appearances. Through one week, he’s been worth precisely 0.0 wins above replacement.

3. Travis d’Arnaud: After Sunday’s game, d’Arnaud said that he blamed himself for the loss. That may be a little harsh, but his 0-for-15 to start the season isn’t doing anyone any favors.
