Angels 14, Mets 2: Three Up, Three Down

That was, uh…well, that was certainly something.

Three Up
1. Juan Lagares:
As expected, Lagares has played a flawless center field for the Mets. Not quite as expected were the four multi-hit games in 12 starts. How much of that has been luck, and how much the product of genuine improvement?

2. Jeurys Familia: Familia is a Mets pitcher who did not give up any runs on Sunday. On this day, that’s more than enough for an “Up.”

3. David Wright: Wright actually gave the Mets an early lead with his RBI single in the first, but that’s not why I’m giving him an “Up.” Good for Wright defending his teammates, even if it earned him an ejection. Knowing the captain, he wouldn’t have done it in a one-run game, but used Sunday’s blowout situation to his advantage.

Three Down
1. Bartolo Colon: Not much to say, except for the stats: six innings, 11 hits and nine earned runs. That’s enough damage for two or three outings, but Colon allowed it all in one.

2. Scott Rice: Opposing batters own a .500 on-base percentage against Rice this season. The left-hander’s ERA now stands at 13.50.

3. Eric Young, Jr.: Not only did Young go hitless at the plate, but he also misplayed two Angels hits into triples. Young is still relatively inexperienced in the outfield, but he wasn’t taking these kinds of poor routes earlier this month.
