Mets 9, D-backs 0: Three Up, Three Down

This one was over before it began.

Three Up
1. Kirk Nieuwenhuis:
What more could the Mets want from Nieuwenhuis in his first game as Juan Lagares’ replacement? Starting in center, Nieuwenhuis finished with three hits, a home run, three RBI and two fine catches on defense.

2. Eric Young, Jr: Young has quietly developed into a sparkplug atop the Mets’ order. He rapped out three more hits Tuesday, scored twice, drove in two runs and probably would have stolen a base, had the Mets not been leading by a significant margin.

3. Jenrry Mejia: It would have been interesting to see how deep into the game Mejia might have gone if not for the blister that knocked him out after five. Before that, Mejia had been cruising with five shutout innings.

Three Down
1. Lucas Duda: You know it’s a good day for the Mets when one of the team’s worst performers still reaches base, drives in a run and scores. That was Duda’s contribution, among the lightest on the team.

2. David Wright: Man, was it difficult to choose “Downs” for this game. I don’t particularly care for Wright’s haircut, which I’ve let him know on multiple occasions. This is what he gets.

3. Kyle Farnsworth: That’s for letting up two line drives! Which were both caught. I really may have to rethink this exercise.
