Mets 2, Cardinals 0: Three Up, Three Down

Mejia plus Rice plus Torres plus Farnsworth equals shutout.

Three Up
1. Jenrry Mejia:
His health remains a big “if,” but Mejia is pitching dynamite ball. His career-long scoreless innings streak currently stands at 13 2/3.

2. Travis d’Arnaud: In addition to catching a shutout, d’Arnaud came through with two hits and an RBI at the plate. His offense finally seems to be turning a corner.

3. Ruben Tejada: Props to Tejada for two fine defensive plays. He’s still having a dreadful season, but perhaps Monday’s game was the start of something better.

Three Down
1. Curtis Granderson: The boos are growing louder every day. To Granderson’s credit, he is making no excuses.  But he’s now mired in an 0-for-21 funk.

2. Chris Young: After reaching base on an error in the sixth, Young nearly killed the Mets’ best rally when Yadier Molina caught him attempting to advance on a would-be wild pitch. He made the first out of the inning at third, a definite  baseball no-no.

3. Eric Young: This is a tough “Down,” considering Young finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. But he also left the bases loaded with two outs in the sixth, at a time when the Mets could have broken open the game.
